Alongside partner organizations and concerned citizens, Appalachian Voices launched an Energy Democracy Tour to educate residents in Virginia, North Carolina and the Tennessee Valley on how to take back their electric system from monopoly utilities.
We are committed to disrupting a status quo designed to line the pockets of the government-protected utility monopolies who have been calling the shots. We are citizens demanding a system that puts people and the planet first.
In early May, we joined eight other organizations representing a wide range of public policy ideologies to introduce the Virginia Energy Reform Coalition aimed at lowering prices and increasing choices for ratepayers while improving the environment.
In January, we joined NC WARN to call on our elected leaders to reject Duke Energy’s anticipated grid plan that would allow the monopoly utility to enact up to $13 billion in rate hikes.
Our Executive Director Tom Cormons discusses why we need an energy system that is responsive and responsible to the people it serves.
