A new documentary by Zach Galifianakis digs into how North Carolina has been transformed by the growing tidal wave of political spending. Screenings of “Democracy for Sale” will take place in numerous North Carolina towns throughout January and February.

Maya Viknius, born and raised in the Ukraine, brings a unique cultural perspective and nearly 20 years experience in accounting, while Leigh Kirchner, a first-generation college graduate with centuries-old roots in Appalachia, adds her regional know-how to our development team.

Arch Coal, ICG to address water pollution violations at coal mines
Yesterday afternoon the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice announced a settlement with Arch Coal and International Coal Group Inc. to resolve hundreds of illegal pollution discharge violations made by the conglomerate at its coal mines throughout Appalachia, including a fine of $2 million and required upgrades to their operations to protect “communities overburdened by pollution.”
