Kyah Powers
Federal Projects Research Intern, Spring 2025
Kyah enjoys supporting her community as a scholar in East Tennessee State University’s Undergraduate Research Honors Program for Philosophy and the Roan Scholars Leadership Program, and she has set her sights on community service. Kyah has been part of a number of public service initiatives, including international work in children’s services in Indonesia, studying abroad in Bolivia to cultivate fair-trade learning principles, and working in disaster recovery in Appalachia. She was also formerly employed as a Youth Engagement Professional at Coalition for Kids.
Most recently, Kyah was awarded a grant for policy advocacy surrounding efforts to end addiction in the Tennessee, and she has since been working to establish funding for recovery community centers (RCCs) with a local RCC partner. She has also collaborated with her local Chamber of Commerce to connect business leaders with leaders of the upcoming generation, has served as an intern with Hunter, Smith, & Davis LLP, and performed as a TEDx Speaker.
In her spare time, Kyah finally enjoys performing as a vocalist in various capacities and a flautist in the ETSU Symphony Winds Ensemble. Kyah aspires to attend law school and receive a joint PhD in Philosophy after receiving her undergraduate degrees, so that she can complete a career focused on public service and advocacy on the national and international levels, specifically focusing on mitigating issues of human rights within environmental policy.
