Background
What is scoping?
During the scoping period, FERC gathers input from the public and relevant agencies on potential environmental impacts, reasonable alternatives, and measures to avoid or limit environmental effects of the proposed project. This input will help inform whether FERC requires the developers to do a more thorough environmental review of the proposed project, called an Environmental Impact Statement.
You can be involved with the scoping process by submitting a comment during a meeting, signing our petition or submitting your comment to FERC online. Need help on submitting a comment? Our friends at the Protect Our Water Heritage Rights Coalition have a super helpful guide.
Tips for submitting a comment:
FERC is seeking information that it may not have access to about what could be impacted or disturbed by this project, such as:
- Locations of water features like drinking water wells, streams, ponds and creeks
- Cultural or historical locations like graveyards, Indigenous sites or battlefields
- Potential locations of protected or endangered wildlife and plants
- How you interact with the environment—do you fish, boat or swim in a potentially impacted river like the Dan?
Our main ask: FERC should require an Environmental Impact Statement for the Williams Southeast Supply Enhancement Project.
