LEXINGTON, N.C. — Groups opposed to the proposed Davie-Davidson methane gas complex are urging people to show up for a public hearing held by the Davidson County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.

Duke Energy is planning a massive buildout of dirty methane gas infrastructure on the Yadkin River to power data centers and wants to use land zoned for homes and farms in Davidson County for its project. The site would include a massive liquefied gas storage facility in Davidson County, two methane gas-fired power plants on Perkins Game Land across the river in Davie County, and a pipeline running under the Yadkin to connect the two sites.

The Davidson County Board of Commissioners plans to vote on rezoning the land after the public hearing. Opponents are urging the board to defer that vote until more information is available. Duke has not provided enough information for the board to make an informed decision.

That information should include a completed air-modeling analysis, a sound study that includes impacts from construction and operation of the complex, a light-pollution study, traffic-impact analysis, evaluation of water usage and water-quality impacts, and evaluation of potential economic harm, including lowering of property values.

Public hearing at Davidson County Board of Commissioners meeting
Monday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.
913 N. Greensboro St. (fourth floor)
Lexington, N.C.
Those interested can RSVP to attend.
