Spring means longer days, more sunshine and Earth Month — the perfect time for folks to hear about Virginia’s tremendous clean energy potential and the barriers limiting our progress toward cutting pollution and creating jobs in rapidly emerging industries.

Reporter Sandy Hausmann and WVTF public radio out of Roanoke recently aired an informative five-part series that provides insightful facts and great interviews exploring Virginia’s clean energy opportunities and obstacles, a central focus of Appalachian Voices’ work in Virginia. The series includes reports on:

  • How Virginia has fallen behind in solar energy
  • The case for wind power
  • Concerns about the cost of clean energy
  • An evaluation of our solar potential
  • And applicable lessons from abroad
  • The more that Virginia news outlets cover the ins and outs of energy, the more Virginians will understand where our electricity comes from and whether these sources are safe, reliable and affordable for all.

There are misconceptions about whether electric utilities have built clean energy projects in-state, and accurate information is the first step to combating incorrect perceptions and holding companies and other leaders accountable to deliver what the public wants.

Tune in and get the facts, then take action to push for renewable energy in Virginia!
