Appalachian Solar Advocates Application

Appalachian Solar Advocates is a four-week training for Virginia residents developed by Appalachian Voices.

Solar is now the most affordable method of producing electricity in much of the world, and it can give farmers an important source of revenue. But most power companies want us to keep paying them for energy that creates more air and water pollution.

The answer to local concerns isn't to stop solar progress — it's to make sure solar projects are done well and bring economic development to communities and while protecting soil, water and wildlife. However, misinformation and ordinances in a number of Virginia counties are closing the door on solar development at a time when demand for electricity is projected to increase.

Sign up for Appalachian Solar Advocates to learn how to bring well-built solar projects to your community. Registration is limited!

During this four-week program, you will have weekly virtual courses led by Appalachian Voices and other experts. We’ll cover:

  1. Solar energy and battery storage basics and best practices
  2. New and innovative ways of utilizing solar energy
  3. How to engage at the local and state level to promote solar energy and battery storage.
You'll have three weeks of prerecorded courses and homework that you can do anytime during the week and we'll meet virtually as a group to present action plans on Tuesday, May 13, at 6pm. Participating in the course involves two to four hours of weekly homework as you develop a personalized action plan for how you intend to be an Appalachian Solar Advocate in your community.
