Warmer waters would diminish population in Va. , researchers say
[ Virginia ] Researchers warn that if current climate projections hold true, warmer temperatures could mean fewer trout in Virginia ‘s 2,300 miles of wild trout streams. And one model indicates rising temperatures could take 97 percent of the trout habitat in the southern Appalachians by 2100. A recent study on brook trout shows the most immediate threats to the native fish are agricultural land management, urbanization and introduced species — brown and rainbow trout, Gillespie said. All wild trout are threatened by changing land use and rising temperatures.
