Potlatch Corp. estimates that between 18 percent and 20 percent of its 1.5 million acres of timberlands would be worth more if used for something other than growing trees, the company announced Monday. The Spokane-based company disclosed the results of a land-value study that identified as many as 300,000 acres in three states “that are non-strategic to our core forestland operations,” Potlatch President and CEO Michael Covey said in a press release. Potlatch designated as “non-strategic” between 100,000 and 120,000 acres in Idaho , between 100,000 and 120,000 acres in Minnesota , and between 50,000 and 60,000 acres in Arkansas . In a statement, Covey said the properties could be sold over time.
