The Swannanoa Grassroots Alliance is organizing a community disaster-preparedness and resilience event on Saturday, April 11. The event will feature hands-on training in key aspects of emergency readiness by members of the Black Mountain Community Emergency Response Team and the Buncombe County Rescue Squad. That training will be offered twice, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Throughout the event, partners will be on hand with informational tables to provide resources and to answer questions about different aspects of preparedness. Partners include Appalachian Voices, the Swannanoa Fire Department, Riverlink, the Footprint Project, OnTrack Financial, Hope4NC, the American Red Cross, Buncombe County, Warren Wilson College and more.
The event will also include free food, live music (including an open bluegrass jam session), and raffles and other giveaways, including an emergency radio, 330-watt portable solar-powered battery and inverter, and water filter kits.
The event will be held on April 11 from 12 to 5 p.m. at 216 Whitson Ave., Swannanoa, North Carolina. Spanish interpretation will be provided, and requests for special accommodations can be made here.
