KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On March 25, Appalachian Voices, Sierra Club, Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning and our partners will host a webinar about how the Tennessee Valley Authority recently eliminated public input on a major decision that could have lasting impacts on our region.
This webinar will cover the latest news from TVA, including how the board of the nation’s largest public power provider recently cut the public out and voted unanimously to scrap plans to retire its Kingston and Cumberland coal plants, even as it brings new methane gas power plants online at the same sites.
Experts will discuss potential environmental and economic impacts on our region, and community members harmed by TVA’s coal plants will share their perspectives. The webinar will highlight how Appalachian Voices and our partners are responding and what actions we can take together. There will also be time for audience Q&A.
When: Wednesday, March 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Zoom webinar
Speakers:
Gabi Lichtenstein, Appalachian Voices
Angie Mummaw, Appalachian Voices
Jessica Waller-Downs, Kingston Coal Ash Worker Protection Group
Delaney King, Southern Environmental Law Center
Natalie Levine, National Parks Conservation Association
