Appalachian Solar Advocates Application
We all have moments in our lives when we are called to stand up and have the courage to say what we believe. It is challenging to disagree publicly with our neighbors but when we’re prepared, it’s easier to speak up in support of the things that we believe are right and will benefit our communities.
Survey data has demonstrated that clean energy development is strongly favored over fossil fuels and that residents in close proximity to large-scale solar sites have an overwhelmingly positive attitude towards them. However, misinformation, intentional disinformation and a vocal minority have led to solar being banned in many areas across the state.
Solar is now more affordable than fossil fuels, and solar with battery storage is cost competitive with methane gas peaker plants and significantly cleaner.
That’s why we’re inviting you to participate in a new training — Appalachian Solar Advocates — for Virginia residents who want to learn to stand up and help their communities benefit from the transition to clean energy.
During this four-week program, you will have weekly virtual courses led by Appalachian Voices and other experts. We’ll cover:
- Solar energy and battery storage basics and best practices
- New and innovative ways of utilizing solar energy
- How to engage at the local and state level to promote solar energy and battery storage.
