Pennington Gap residents invited to meeting to review designs for Cas Walker site

PENNINGTON GAP, Va. — Pennington Gap officials will unveil design drafts for transforming the site of the former Cas Walker grocery store into a green space that helps protect the community from flooding. They will seek community input at a June 25 meeting hosted by Appalachian Voices.

The exploration, planning and design process for the project has been funded by a Green & Healthy Homes Initiative’s Thriving Communities Program grant. Previous meetings and listening sessions helped the community identify doing something about the abandoned building as a priority and helped gather ideas about how best to utilize the site.

The design drafts are based on weeks of site surveys, outreach and planning.

The meeting will be held at the Pennington Gap Community Center, 41670 W. Morgan Avenue, Pennington Gap, Virginia, 24277, from 5:30 to 6:30. Those interested in attending are invited to register. A virtual option is also available for those who can’t attend in person. Food will be provided for in-person participants.
