Labor unions, allies to address Tennessee Valley Authority board on Wednesday against TVA privatization

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — This Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 2-4 p.m., labor leaders from the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers and the Engineering Association, IFPTE Local 1937, the Office of Professional Employees International Union, the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the Tennessee Building and Construction Trades Council, along with Appalachian Voices, Sierra Club and others will address the members of the Tennessee Valley Authority board at a listening session to express opposition to reported efforts to privatize TVA, our nation’s largest public utility. 

Who: Labor leaders from IFPTE, OPEIU, EA/IFPTE Local 1937, IAM, Ironworkers, TNBCTC, Sierra Club and Appalachian Voices.

What/Where: Listening session at the TVA headquarters auditorium in Knoxville, Tennessee — 400 West Summit Hill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37902, where labor, allied groups leaders and members of the public will address the TVA board. 

When: Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 2-4 p.m.

Logistical Details:

  • TVA Board Listening Session: 25 members of the public will address the board, including labor union and organizational representatives. Speakers are expected to include:
    • Gay Henson, Secretary-Treasurer, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers
    • Anthony Chorney, President, Engineering Association, IFPTE Local 1937
    • Sandy Pope, International Board Member, Office of Professional Employees International Union
    • Staff from Appalachian Voices and members of the Sierra Club
