On December 1, Progress Energy Corp. announced that by 2017 it will close 11 coal-fired power plants located at four sites in North Carolina. The plants will be converted to capacity natural gas-burning facilities. The plant sites to be shut down are Sutton, the Cape Fear Plant, the Weathersppon Plant, and the H.F. Lee Plant.
