[ Oregon ] A group of forestry and public policy experts has proposed 19 indicators that will provide critical information about Oregon ‘ s public and private forests and measure progress towards the sustainable management of those forests. “The committee ‘ s work is already receiving national and international attention, and is being watched carefully by the sustainable forest management community as a possible model if we are successful.” These indicators will be used to measure and report how the strategies and actions already established in the Board of Forestry ‘ s statewide strategic plan, the Forestry Program for Oregon , are being met. Examples of proposed indicators include the biological integrity of forest streams, forest-related employment and wages, and forest fuel conditions and trends related to wildfire risks.
