April 21: Protecting our public lands from coal mining webinar

When we come together, we can protect our land, water and communities from the environmental impacts of coal mining —including our treasured national forests.
Last year, along with the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy, Allegheny-Blue Ridge Alliance and other partners, we won a campaign to shut down illegal coal hauling through the Monongahela National Forest in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. But there are still mining permits right up to the forest’s edge, and the Trump administration and Congress have taken steps to open up public land to coal mining.
Join us for an important webinar to hear the latest on our efforts to keep the coal industry off our public land, and to learn how you can support the campaign.
Don’t Mine the Mon Webinar

In 2022, South Fork Coal Company began illegally hauling coal through the Monongahela National Forest from the 1,100-acre Rocky Run Surface Mine near Lewisburg, West Virginia.. In 2025, a grassroots campaign succeeded in kicking the coal trucks off our public land and shutting down the Rocky Run Surface Mine — for now. But the threat of coal industry encroachment into Appalachia’s national forests remains.
We hope you’ll join us on Tuesday, April 21, to learn more and get involved!
