Ensuring an Affordable, Transparent, and Accountable Tennessee Valley Authority

The Tennessee Valley Authority is vitally important to the Southeast. TVA is not only the largest federally owned electric utility, but it also manages everything from flood control to river navigation that is critical to the nation’s supply chains, and provides recreation access and economic development for the region.

Congress has a responsibility to ensure that TVA continues to be owned by the people and continues to responsibly provide affordable, safe, and reliable electricity throughout the region. Additionally, lawmakers must ensure that TVA and its board are transparent and accountable to the people who pay for the services TVA provides, which will strengthen the public power model.

“We urge all lawmakers to adopt and pursue the policies outlined in this platform to strengthen TVA’s public power model through increased transparency and accountability, and ensure that TVA is a leader on affordable energy.” said Director of Public Power Campaigns Bri Knisely. “The people of the Tennessee Valley deserve a utility that works with and for them, guided by honest leaders with genuine expertise.”
