WISE, Virginia — At 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, members of the Solar Workgroup of Southwest Virginia will gather for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new rooftop solar installation at Wise Primary School.

The Solar Workgroup of Southwest Virginia is a group of nonprofits, community action agencies, colleges, state agencies, planning district commissions and other interested residents and businesses seeking to develop renewable energy in the seven coalfield counties of Southwest Virginia.

Speakers will discuss the success of the Solar Workgroup’s apprenticeship program and how renewable energy projects like this can create jobs. Folks will also have the chance to familiarize themselves with the solar installation process and how solar panels work.
