Appalachian Voices’ Mineland ReLeaf Project has purchased Quarry Drive, a poorly reclaimed mine site near Clinchco, Virginia, with the goal of properly reclaiming and reforesting it. Once that hard work is done, the project will work to develop the site for the public’s benefit.
On Friday, March 6, we will hold a community input session to discuss future plans for the site. Food and refreshments will be provided.
The Quarry Drive site is 193 acres of land that was last mined in the late 1990s. The site is largely covered by invasive species — mostly autumn olive shrubs. This project will involve removing those species then decompacting the soil and reforesting the site with a mix of native trees.
The session will be held at the Clinchco Senior Citizens Center, 210 Main St., Clinchco, VA 24226, 6-7:30 p.m.
