Community Strong project development meetings coming to Dante, Dungannon, Pennington Gap, Pound and Clinchco

NORTON, Va. — Appalachian Voices will be hosting the third listening sessions for the Community Strong initiative in Clinchco, Dante, Dungannon, Pennington Gap and Pound, Virginia, in March and April. Community members are invited to join.

The first meeting will be for Dante community members. It will be held on Tuesday, March 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Dante Community Center and attendees will further refine community plans for project development. We will be discussing the issues, solutions and ideas that the community generated in the previous two sessions and introducing initial plans for resilience projects in Dante, including the revitalization of the depot. Everyone is welcome, and former attendance is not required to join the planning process. 

The second meeting will be on Tuesday, March 18 in Dungannon. The meeting will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Dungannon Depot and attendees will further discuss ideas from previous sessions and introduce plans for projects including for a wetland project in Dungannon that will help mitigate flooding issues. 

The Pennington Gap meeting will be on March 25 at the Pennington Gap Community Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. We will be discussing the project ideas that the community generated in the previous sessions and introducing initial plans for projects in Pennington Gap, including preliminary designs for the Community Flood Preparedness project at the old Cas Walker building.

We will hold a meeting in Pound on Tuesday, April 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the JW Adams Elementary School cafeteria. Attendees will discuss the planned pocket park, the Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia labor monument and preliminary designs for a riverwalk. 

Community members from Dante, Dunagannon, Pennington Gap and Pound can RSVP on Eventbrite. Dinner and $25 stipends will be provided to participants. 

Attendees can also RSVP on Eventbrite for the the April 8 meeting in Clinchco. More details on that meeting will be announced later.
