PENNINGTON GAP, Va. — The Solar Workgroup of Southwest Virginia is hosting a community meeting on energy reliability and resilience across Southwest Virginia on Sept. 11 between 3 and 5 p.m. The meeting will feature representatives from Pennington Gap and Dungannon to discuss work taking place within the communities and present opportunities for more communities to get involved. The workgroup meeting will be held at the Pennington Gap Community Center, beside Lee Theater.

“Communities like Pennington Gap and Dungannon are leading the way in Southwest Virginia for utilizing clean energy for community resilience,” said Appalachian Voices’ Southwest Virginia Solar and Electrification Projects Manager Austin Counts. “We hope community members will join us to share their thoughts on these local projects and to get more communities involved.”

The event welcomes community members and leaders from any Southwest Virginia community interested in discussing existing or new opportunities for solar power and backup energy development at the building and town levels. Food and drink will be provided as well as an opportunity to get their own solar equipment.

“Solar Workgroup meetings are places where people are invited to ask questions and find the resources and partners to work together on solar projects,” said Christine Gyovai of  Dialogue + Design Associates. “It is a place where community members can bring their desire to work together to build out renewable energy and accessible energy resources in Southwest Virginia.”

The workgroup meeting in Pennington Gap is free and open to the public. Participants can RSVP at swvasolar.org or by contacting Austin Counts at austin@appvoices.org.
