Student Sustainability Program at Virginia Tech Receives Award

Virginia Tech’s Green Request for Proposals Program received the 2019 Sustainability Innovation Award for Facilities Management from APPA — Leader in Educational Facilities. For the past nine years, the Green RFP program has implemented student-proposed projects, including reusable to-go containers and LED lighting, that support the Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment. The commitment defines goals to increase campus recycling rates to 50 percent by 2020, improve energy efficiency in buildings, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. — By Rachael Kelley
