Deal Reached Over Seeping Coal Ash Ponds in NC

On Jan. 9, Duke Energy and North Carolina state regulators announced an agreement regarding leaks from coal ash impoundments at the Allen, Marshall and Cliffside power plants.

At issue were 21 leaks at the three plants identified prior to Jan. 1, 2015. Duke agreed to pay $4,000 for each violation and drain the impoundments at the facilities by specific dates in 2020 and 2021.
