Help bring Energy Democracy to Virginia! — Summer Virtual Workshop Series

This summer we are hosting a series of virtual workshops on energy democracy in Virginia that will explore how individuals and local communities can engage more democratically with their electric utility.

Electricity is an essential part of 21st century life, so each of us should have greater influence over where our electricity comes from and how much it costs. “Energy Democracy” means having more control over how the power we use makes its way into our homes, businesses, schools and other buildings.

Join us and others in your community for an interactive video workshop on your energy system. Learn how customers and members of the different types of utilities (municipally-owned, investor-owned and member-owned electric cooperatives) can build energy democracy in their communities!

Among other things, we will cover:

  • Where your power comes from
  • Who decides where energy resources are located
  • What factors determine your electricity bill
  • How you can hold your utility accountable

*Attendance in each workshop will be limited to 30 people, so be sure to RSVP. A computer and internet connection will be required in order to participate in group sessions. We acknowledge many Virginians do not have reliable internet service.

Questions? Contact Emily Piontek, Virginia Energy Democracy Field Coordinator: emily@appvoices.org.

Workshop Schedule

Because the issues facing customers differ from region to region in Virginia, our workshops are organized by utility. We encourage you to attend the workshop that most closely addresses your needs. Please feel free to join any session.
