No utility shutoffs: Virginians deserve fair rates and fair treatment

Thousands of families in Virginia are struggling with the COVID-19 health and economic crises. Due to our broken energy system, those who can’t afford their electric, gas and water utilities are at risk of being disconnected. While there is currently a moratorium on disconnections from these vital services, it expires September 16—during a public health crisis! People in cities across Virginia are already being disconnected because the moratorium did not cover municipal utilities.

The Senate will discuss SB 5118 regarding utility debt during the Special Legislative Session—as early as THIS WEEK. Please sign our letter and tell your state senator to address the issue of utility shutoffs!

Tell the Senate Committee on Finance & Appropriations to support SB 5118!

SB 5118 proposes an Emergency Debt Repayment Plan that would protect Virginia families from losing utility services while they repay utility debts incurred during the pandemic.
