Local students participate in paid solar apprenticeship program

The first round of solar apprentices for the Securing Solar for Southwest initiative have begun installing solar on St. Paul Elementary School, with plans to complete a solar energy system for Union Primary School in the future.

 

$4 million VCEDA loan approved for Dickenson County rehabilitation facility

The Dickenson County Industrial Development Authority has secured a loan of up to $4 million to build an inpatient substance abuse rehabilitation center near Red Onion. The center is estimated to create 52 full-time jobs within five years and will provide much-needed services for individuals entering into recovery.

 

$300,000 given for splashpad project in Clintwood

Dickenson County Industrial Development Authority and the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority recently closed on three grants to help construct a local splashpad. Not only will the splashpad provide fun for families, but it is hoped that it will boost the local economy through increased sales to day-trippers.

 

Pilot childcare program to begin in SWVA, including Tazewell County

The Employer Sponsored Child Care Benefit Program, launched by the United Way, is a two year pilot program that seeks to fill the existing gap in childcare in SWVA. The project should benefit 25 organizations and fill 76 jobs in the area.
