Coalition Launches Second Round of Funding for Reclaiming Coal Sites

Following the success of its inaugural mini-grant program in 2020, the Reclaiming Appalachia Coalition is preparing to provide start-up funds for new set of innovative mine land reclamation and economic development projects.


Funding for Study on Medical Device Manufacturing in Dickenson County

Virginia awarded up to $170,000 in grant funding for a 12-month feasibility study on a possible medical device manufacturing facility that would involve students and teachers at Ridgeview High School.


40 New Manufacturing Jobs Coming to Tazewell County

A leading equipment manufacturer in Tazewell County is investing $3.2 million in expanding its business, creating new jobs in the process. The investment is expected to double production at the facility.


Buchanan County Solar Array Set to Bring 250 Jobs to Southwest Virginia

Lawmakers announced the second largest solar farm in the Appalachian Mountains in April. The array is slated to be built on a reclaimed coal mine near Hurley, and would provide at least 60 megawatts of solar energy.
