Workshop: How to write a letter to the editor
Gas companies want to build massive, expensive methane gas pipelines and gas-fired power plants for profit at the expense of our communities and environment, threatening the health and environment of Virginia and North Carolina counties.
Not everyone living in areas impacted by the proposed Transco Pipeline Expansion and T-15 Reliability Project is receiving sufficient information about these projects, which could threaten our precious natural resources and pose safety risks due to possible explosions or fires. Now is the time to spread awareness and equip communities with crucial information about the potential hazards of these pipeline projects.
You can easily help inform others about these issues from the comfort of your own home by writing a letter-to-the-editor, a short message sharing your views on a topic. Join us on Wednesday, September 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m. for a workshop on how to write and submit a letter-to-the-editor to help educate your community, elected officials and reporters about the risks of these pipeline projects.

Background
Gas giant Williams Companies is proposing a new project as part of its Transco Pipeline Expansion, also known as the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project. This 54-mile pipeline would start in Pittsylvania County, Va., and cross four North Carolina counties: Rockingham, Guilford, Forsyth and Davidson. The pipeline would bring over 42.5 million cubic feet a day of methane gas into our region — the equivalent emissions of adding 6.5 million cars to North Carolina’s roads.
The Southeast Supply Enhancement Project would also require new gas-fired compressor units — part of the large industrial facilities that help transport methane gas from one location to another — in Iredell and Davidson Counties, N.C. Burning methane at compressor stations releases toxic air pollutants, causing an increased risk of respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological diseases in neighboring communities.
Additionally, Dominion Energy is proposing a 45-mile methane gas pipeline that would run west to east from Eden to Roxboro in North Carolina called the T15 Reliability Project. The gas from this pipeline would be used to power a dirty and unnecessary methane gas power plant that has also been recently proposed.
Say NO to these pipelines that would pose numerous threats to our safety, public health and environment. Writing a letter-to-the-editor is an easy way to push back against these projects and build awareness in your community.
