Pound, Virginia on the morning of July 28. Photos by AV staff member Willie Dodson
On the evening July 27 / morning of July 28, a deluge of nearly twelve inches of rain caused devastating flooding in several counties in Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky.
Luckily, our SWVA staff and our office in Norton have had only minor impacts so far. Some of our partner organizations and communities have not been so fortunate.
Ways to Help
Donations to the following organization will provide crisis funds directly to the communities affected.
Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky’s Crisis Aid fund
Appalshop’s Flood Resources page
KY government’s emergency fund
Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center’s office in Whitesburg was significantly damaged, and will need extensive repairs.
