Web Design Assistant

The web assistant will work closely with the Digital Innovation Specialist to update and maintain AppalachianVoices.org as well as various other organizational websites. The position is flexible between design and development and will shift with the chosen intern’s skills and interests.

Intern activities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintaining and updating various web pages throughout AppVoices.org and other organizational websites
  • Helping to publish blogs and The Appalachian Voice bi-monthly newspaper to the website
  • Depending on the intern’s skills, other activities may include:
    • Building one-off web pages and tools
    • Designing new web graphics for our online campaigns and special events
    • Developing interactive content in javascript / Jquery / php
    • Helping maintain links with external web tools on our website

MUST HAVE:

  • Experience with working on websites (either front-end or back-end). Acceptable skillsets could include experience with designing sites in WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, etc., OR a working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other web development code (i.e. PHP, Javascript/jQuery, etc.)
  • Eagerness to work on websites and practice/expand on web design or development skills
  • Strong organizational and self-management skills
  • A keen interest in problem-solving and a can-do attitude
