Tennessee Grassroots Organizing Assistant

The intern will serve as part of our Tennessee Energy Democracy team, will work closely with our Tennessee team and grassroots group, PVEC Member Voices, to increase member involvement throughout the Powell Valley Electric Co-op service area.

Intern activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending and taking minutes at all PVEC Member Voices meetings
  • Assisting members with website and Facebook maintenance
  • Contributing to monthly newsletter production
  • Updating the campaign outreach database
  • Coordinating and conducting outreach for community workshops
  • Researching electric co-op best practices and other topics as needed by the group
  • Growing the group’s member base via one-on-one outreach
  • Tracking and tabling at relevant events throughout the service area
  • Writing or contributing to blogs for Appalachian Voices’ Front Porch Blog

Requires 15 hrs/week commitment, on average. Compensation $15/hr. The internship will start immediately and last through the end of January.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Passionate about community empowerment in the Appalachian region
  • Great communication skills- ability to make cold calls a huge plus
  • Ability to compromise/work well with people from a wide range of opinions and backgrounds
  • Organizational skills (highly detail-oriented)
  • Sense of humor
  • Use of Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, etc.) or willingness to learn
  • Self-starter that can work independently
  • Use of Facebook and/or WordPress
  • Writing skills and/or an interest in blogging
  • Member-owner of Powell Valley Electric Cooperative
