MTR photo exhibit inspires students to write to their Congressmen

On Tuesday, January 22nd, Emily and Marty had an exhibit opening of Antrim Caskey’s beautiful large-format photographs of MTR in West Virginia. There were 25 prints, each with their own individual caption that told the story of MTR, how it affects the land and people, and what some activists are doing about it. We had refreshments and a letter-writing station for people to write their state representatives, urging them to support the Clean Water Protection Act. We had about 45 people show up to the event, and are going to send off almost 40 letters to representatives, either urging them to support or thanking them for their support. It was an exciting afternoon event! The exhibit will be up in that same location, “The Grille,” which is the on-campus lunch and coffee café, for another week. After that, the exhibit will be moved to the Science Library on campus, where the photos and captions will be shown for another few weeks, into the spring semester.

Renowned environmental author Bill McKibben takes a good look at the exhibit on Tuesday before writing to Vermont Representative Peter Welch, asking him to co-sponsor the CWPA.

Students, faculty, staff, and townspeople wrote letters to their state representatives asking them to co-sponsor the CWPA or thanking them for already doing so.
