Something we missed...clean energy jobs growing across the U.S.

Back in March, Environmental Entrepreneurs released their national clean energy jobs report. The key finding was that clean energy businesses employ more than 2.5 million Americans across all 50 states. The largest job-creating sector? Energy efficiency!! Some states in the Southeast and Appalachia — such as Tennessee — are among the fastest-growing states for clean energy jobs. However, there is still a long way to go to reach the region’s energy efficiency potential. [ Read the report]

Bank of America’s energy efficiency financing program a huge success!

Before there was WHEEL (Warehouse for Energy Efficiency Loans), a low-cost lending program backed by Citibank, there was Bank of America, which in 2011 provided $55 million in low-cost loans and grants to expand access to energy efficiency for families and businesses in low- to moderate-income communities. Between 2011 and 2013, more than 700 loans were provided totaling $34 million, with another $34 million coming from other sources. While the program was largely successful, ACEEE reports that one of the greatest challenges was generating consumer demand for the program. This is what makes our community outreach work at Appalachian Voices so important! [Learn more about our efforts, and check out ACEEE’s article here!]
