A message from Appalachian Voices regarding COVID-19

Update 07-31-2020 by Jamie Goodman: Our staff continue to work from home and conduct nearly all of our functions online, including community outreach. We are also working diligently to stop utility shutoffs for low-income and out-of-work residents in our region, especially North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Visit our Covid Shutoffs page for updates on those efforts.

At Appalachian Voices, we are committed to working for a healthy environment and resilient local economies that allow communities to thrive. Faced with the dangers of COVID-19, we are making essential changes to help protect our staff, volunteers, partners and the community members we work with across the region.

As of yesterday, our staff are working from home rather than in our five offices. For the time being, we have canceled all travel and public events.

As we adapt to this evolving situation, we will continue to work for ecological health, environmental justice and clean energy for all. We are redirecting our office phone lines to home devices, and we continue to be available via email. And though we cannot hold public gatherings, we will continue to bring people together to advance our mission using digital platforms and other formats.

Appalachian communities are resilient, and we are here for each other. We wish you and yours good health, support and peace during these trying times.

Appalachian Voices' Executive Director, Tom holds a degree in law from UCLA and has a life-long appreciation for Appalachia's mountains and culture. An avid hiker and whitewater rafter, his latest pleasure is in sharing with his kids a deep respect and appreciation of nature.
